Message from Mr. Dean - Re: Masks
We have a small supply of student masks each week to hand out to students who forget to bring one to school . We are finding that WE DO NOT have enough to cover the amount of requests coming in each day. If you could please send your child with a mask each day that would be very helpful. Kindly, Larry Dean
Halloween Costume Rules :)
Students are welcome to wear costumes or orange / black on Friday. They can come to school in their costume first thing in the morning and wear it all day. Some ground rules for costumes are: 1) Don't wear anything you do not want wrecked. Students will still be heading out for recesses so wearing orange / black, an old costume, or only part of their costume that they can leave inside at recess are all good ideas! 2) Please leave the weapons / scary things at home ... this teacher is a chicken! 3) That they are able to get in / out of their costume independently (i.e. if they have to go to the bathroom .. can they?)
Please read the letter from Ms. Jarrett below!!
**Oh ... and next week we are heading to the fish hatchery so look for the permission slip coming home tomorrow.
Letter from our Student Teacher - Ms. Jarrett
Hello parents and caregivers!
My name is Jenny Jarrett (Ms. Jarrett), and I am very excited to be joining Mrs. Davidson’s class as a student teacher. Last week I had a wonderful time getting to know the students during my observation week, and I will be returning on October 26th for 7 weeks of fun and learning. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts in 2005 from UBC, and I am currently completing my final term in the Post Baccalaureate Education program at VIU. I am passionate about helping students explore their identities, finding out what they love, and developing a desire to learn. Coming from a creative background, I love looking for ways to plan cross-curricular lessons in the hopes that there will always be something to engage each student. By exploring our interests together, I hope to learn as much from the students as they learn from myself. I look forward to seeing you at the door! Best regards, Jenny Jarrett
Roll Read Keep Game
I sent home a Roll Read Keep game. This is a fun game that is easy to play but also helps your child practice reading words with short vowel patterns. This is a two person game .. so sorry you may need to play along too! To Play: Cut out the cards and create a pile on the side. Place one card face down on each square. Take turns rolling a die and reading the word in that space. If the word is read the player gets to put it into their own pile. The person with the most words wins! (I sometimes miss read a few words and see if they can catch my mistake - then they can steal that card too!). Please keep this board game as I will likely send home different words as the year progresses!
Parent Teacher Conferences
Just some quick reminders before Parent / Teacher Conferences ;) Virtual Conferences - If you have chosen a virtual conference and intend to use an iPad / smartphone please make sure to download the teams app first. When the time comes for your virtual appoint click the link in your Parent / Teacher Login confirmation email to join the email. Phone Conferences - If you have chosen a phone conference I will call you at the time of the meeting. It may come from the Forest Park number or maybe an unknown number calling you. If you have chosen this option I will be sending you an invite to Fresh Grade to view some samples of your child's work. In Person Conferences - Please note that in-person conferences are limited to 2 adults and one child (if your child is coming). Alternate care arrangements must be made for siblings. When waiting for your appointment please wait in the area that your child lines up for school in the morning. Our classroom door will be open during the conferences for fresh air so please wait to be invited in. Masks must be worn when inside the classroom and social distancing maintained. There will be hand sanitizer for you to use as you enter from outside and sanitizing spray and paper towel if you would like to sanitize the chair you will be using. I apologize in advance ... our chairs are very very short!!
The Parent / Teacher Conference email will come out sometime on Monday for parents to sign up. If you do not find a time that works for your family please email me and we can come up with a flexible solution. In this meeting I will be sharing some of your child's work / communication of learning using the Fresh Grade site set up by SD 68. You will get to see all the great things we have been up to so far!
